IPアドレスは、各コンピューターがインターネットに接続するときに与えられる住所のような識別子で、例えば「214.154.136.134」という文字列です。そしてIPアドレスを英数字で表すのがホスト名です。IPアドレスもしくはホスト名が記録されることで、このユーザーはどの接続ポイントから訪問しているかがわかります。
IP address
An IP address is an address-like identifier given to each computer when it connects to the Internet, for example the string “214.154.136.134”. A host name is an alphanumeric representation of an IP address. By recording the IP address or hostname, we can see from which connection point this user is visiting.
