Analyzing online traffic patterns to skoshbox.com

By Arun Mani – Web Analytics Master

Are you curious about food in general? Do you find Japanese culture interesting?Skoshbox combines Japanese culture and food into a single easy to purchase package. Skoshbox is an American based company . They sell Japanese snacks in beautifully designed packaging to customers who are primarily based in North America.  The customers of Skoshbox can either purchase snacks through a subscription model or purchase snacks directly on the website www.skoshbox.com.  In the subscription model, subscribers are sent a variety of different Japanese snacks prepackaged in a single attractive box. The box of snacks are mailed to customers on a monthly basis. In the direct model, customers can pick and purchase Japanese snacks directly from the website.

Skoshbox is a fast growing company but they are still a small company in terms of employees. They turned to WACA or the Web Analytics Consultants Association to get assistance in solving two primary issues:

1. Scaling up the business in terms of sales

2. Retaining customers

The WACA team in Japan and the WACA team in Singapore came out with a collection of different solutions to address the above two issues. Presented below is a short summary of the solutions from a WACA consultant in Singapore.  In the future we will present the disparate solutions from our other WACA consultants.

All the following solutions are derived from primarily viewing data in Google Analytics. The solutions are as follows:

1. Expand product offerings in some categories
a) The majority of traffic to skoshbox.com is through organic search
b) Potential customers are searching for Candies, Cholocolate, Calpico-mini-cone, caramel-corn-anpanam in Google and are landing on the site. As a result, consider expanding product offerings in these categories

2. Reduce the bounce rate on the pages skoshbox.com/plans and skoshbox.com/current-box
a) A great amount of organic search traffic land on these two pages
b) Bounce rate is 60% and above for each page
c) Both pages involve a lot of scrolling. Reduce the amount of scrolling required as best as possible. Since the majority of traffic to the site is through mobile access, these two pages need to be optimized for mobile usage with minimal scrolling.
d) Use a heat map analysis tool such as hotjar to conduct a deeper analysis of these two pages. Figure out exactly what your users are doing on these two pages.

3. Partner with online media companies like Netflix.com
a) A great amount of users who visit the site skoshbox.com are also interested in movies and T.V. shows. As a result, consider partnering with media companies.

As stated earlier, we will soon present the solutions from our other consultants.
In conclusion,If you are a startup or if you are a small company seeking to optimize your business then please contact us. One of the primary goals of WACA is to help small and medium sized businesses succeed in the market.
