I wrote an article about how to become a good goalkeeper in soccer and I also gave a few tips for beginners. I also mentioned a little bit about a field player’s mindset in soccer. This article is all about the field player and tips for field players. I mentioned a good goalkeeper can influence a team’s morale. Good field players can boost morale and change the flow of the game. There are a few tips on how to become a good field player. First of all, field players should be agile and have good vision. With good vision players can intercept the ball and see other players far which is very crucial to the team. All of the players require good vision and agility, but only some roles which need them the most. There are defenders, midfielders, wingers, strikers, etc … . These are the common roles of field players. Defenders are those who stay in the back line and defend opposing players from getting into dangerous zone like the 6 yard box. They are required to be agile and brave. They do not need vision much. Midfielders are those who can play as first line of defence and also supportive attackers. They are the ones who get the ball the most since they are in the middle and they can pass the ball to anywhere on the field. They need vision the most. They do not need to be agile because they only stay in the middle of the field and pass the ball around. They need technical skills like short pass, long pass, shooting, etc … . Wingers are those who play in the wings and are commonly used for running. They require agility and speed the most. They can be dummy runners or play makers which can move the ball to the 6 yard box by running past the defenders. Strikers are those who stay in the frontline and score goals. They are specialized in finishing the ball which is played from the wingers or midfielders. They do not need to be agile. They only need finishing skills and other skills like jumping and heading. Second, all field players should know are the tactic and formation. This is very essential to the play style of the team. These kinds of formation are prepared and explained by the manager or coach. There are different variations with different advantages and disadvantages. For example, a 4-4-2 formation is a balance formation which forms a group of 3 players in a  triangular shape when playing. This formation does not require agile players much. However, a 3-4-3 formation is a defensive attacking formation in which the team will have 5 attackers when attacking and 5 defenders when defending. This formation requires a lot of speed and stamina since it is constantly transitioning from defending to attacking. Therefore, the full-back or wing defenders need to move back and forth a lot to keep the formation intact and it is also a weak spot of the formation. Finally, every field player needs skills and techniques like passing, shooting, dribbling, tackling and heading, etc … . These skills are a must have for field players since they are constantly passing and dribbling all the time to keep possession.
